Amber Cottage Breakfast Menu
[please note, this is a sample menu. The day has yet to come when all of the items below are concurrently available]
Tea/Coffee
Good selection of teas; ‘builders’, Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Lapsang, as well as various fruit & herbal teas. Good, strong ground coffee, including decaffeinated.
Juice
The default juice is orange, but other juices such as grapefruit and cranberry are available too, and I am more than happy to cater to guests’ requests.
Cereals, etc
I have a selection of several good quality cereals such as ‘WholeEarth’, ‘Jordans’, ‘Dorset Cereals’, & organic muesli, but if you or your family prefer something else, let me know. Porridge is always available. Usually, there is a little something extra such as a fresh fruit salad, mulled fruit or local blackberries & apple. And I’m in the process of developing an Amber Cottage Special, but that’s still under wraps for now……
Bread /toast
There is a selection of local bread, typically white [organic], rye [not organic but very tasty], and a brown wholemeal or multi-grain. Amber Cottage guests have to toast the bread themselves, but this is to ensure that you have hot, fresh toast exactly when you want it.
Jams, marmalades, etc
There is a wide choice of what to eat with your toast, always including Amber Cottage’s homemade jams and marmalades.
Cooked Breakfasts
Eggs are local, free-range, often but not invariably organic, selected for their flavour & freshness, and obviously cooked as you request.
Bacon and sausages are from high quality local pork. The bacon is dry cured, the sausages are high meat content. Both taste excellent. Or, instead of a sausage, try an Amber Cottage homemade venison burger, made with local, wild venison.
Tomatoes are usually organic or [during the season] from the garden, grown without chemicals. The mushrooms are rarely organic or local, but I use large, good quality mushrooms, sweated in a little olive oil & their own juices. Baked beans are always available, laverbread is often available.
Don’t eat meat?
Obviously all of the above apart from those with meat are available, but I make Pembrokeshire Potato Cakes and homemade vegi-burgers especially for vegetarian guests, and vegetarian sausages [not homemade] are usually available too.
Welsh rarebit is always available.
I am still seeking further inspiration, so if you are a vegetarian, planning to stay at Amber Cottage and fancy something special at breakfast time, please let me know & I will do my best.
In general……
If you would like something special or just slightly out of the ordinary for your breakfast, perhaps to celebrate a special occasion, please talk to me about it in advance. The same goes for packed lunches - the more idea you give me of what you would like to eat, the better I can do. I want Amber Cottage breakfasts to continue getting better and better, so new ideas are very welcome.
Lastly, although quite a lot of my breakfast ingredients are organic, I seem to be moving away from almost invariably serving organic food, because this does sometimes lead to compromise in terms of quality, flavour, or food being locally sourced. If this is a problem for you, please let me know in advance & I will see what I can do.
