this is the strangest community forum i have ever been on. All you guys (or just the beast) talkjs about is how awful this country is.

Crickey you say you can catch up on 'local' gossip. This is a very wierd place

Perhaps thats because some of us have noticed how bad society has become over the last 20 years or so. And some of the gossip I have heard around here belies the "Christian" front that is put up in St. Davids

What is a Christian front?
As far as I know the Christian understanding of humanity is that all are fallen, all are in need of repentance, and therefore to suggest that Christians could maintain some kind of idealised view of either society at large or society in St Davids is to misunderstand their basic theology - unless you are just using the notion of a Christian front as short-hand for some kind of "straight" branch of society that you do not fit into and you imagine can be characterised in this simplistic way. Either way, I would argue that neither interpretation of your use of the term really reveals anything about anyone other than yourself as it hints at prejudice. I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect I am not.

The irony is that 'the beast' hasn't graced these shores since 1977.

Pracer, what I mean is that Christians love their neighbours as themselves, do unto other as they would have done to themselves, would not judge and act towards others because of what they have heard in gossip, would offer at least simple kindness to people who have had problems etc etc.
Without being subversive this community has a way to go before they can align it to those values. There are of course some very kind decent people here, I emphasise the word "some"

I suspect Bobby was referring to the Christian stereotype of being forgiving and without prejudice.
In my experience (last visit 2001, so a bit more up to date than the Beast) St Davids is not the most inclusive community, but neither are many small country towns and villages.

Stick around, Mr. Bigcheese - it isn't all moan and groan, but many of us can remember better times. St D. is a great place.

Hey big cheese, yes it is a strange but interesting forum and long may it continue.
So i havn't graced your shores since 1977, seems as if i have missed quite a lot in the last 28 yrs......and on reflection, i am happy to have done so...........soley because the very fond memories i have of the social life around the area are precious and as i know the city has changed greatly.............but has it been for the better?????????

Be safe.
